nieNATURALnie is an audiovisual project by two artists – multimedia artist Beata Małyska and musical artist Remigiusz Zawadzki.
The essence of the project is the confrontation of the natural environment with its unnatural reflection. Humans, in this case the creator, can transform and even deform nature, but nature will always play a primary role because humans are subordinate to it. Regardless of whether a work imitates or deconstructs the original, it requires the existence of that original as a model.
The project's visual layer consists of photos of an artificial, black Christmas tree depicted against a natural background. The audio layer consists of sounds of nature, including animals, transformed using studio techniques into music drawing not only from the tradition of ambient music but also from modern dance electronics. This allows sounds that are soothing in the real world to gain a completely new dimension thanks to modern sound design, fostering not only contemplation but also encouraging dancing. Work on the photographs has been ongoing since November 2013. They have already been taken in locations including Kraków's Błonia Park, Podlasie, Mazovia, and the Baltic Sea.
The exhibition will be presented in June 2015 at Ney Gallery&Prints in Warsaw. The exhibition will feature large-format photographs, video projections, and audio recordings. A catalog with reproductions of the works and a CD with audio recordings will also be released. The project is supervised by Professor Wojciech Prażmowski, an outstanding Polish photographer, lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the National Film School in Łódź, and member of the Association of Polish Art Photographers.
