ANDRZEJ DUDZIŃSKI
Andrzej Dudziński works in painting, drawing, press graphics, and photography. From 1966 to 1968, he studied architecture at the Gdańsk University of Technology, then transferred to the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts (PWSSP), where he studied interior design and graphic design. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, specializing in graphic design in the poster studio of Henryk Tomaszewski. While still a student, he began publishing his drawings in the monthly "Polska" and the weeklies "Szpilki" and "Kultura."
From 1970 to 1972, Dudziński lived in London, contributing to the underground magazines "OZ," "Ink," "Frendz," and "Time Out." After returning to Poland, in a somewhat different climate, he quickly gained fame, partly thanks to Dudi—a disheveled bird who competed in the weekly "Szpilki" competitions. His work was published in leading Polish magazines. He regularly contributed to "Ty i ja," "Literatura," "Kulisy," and "Polityka." He designed theater and film posters, wrote (with his wife) and illustrated children's books, designed theater sets and film roles, collaborated with radio and television, and exhibited his work in leading galleries.
In 1977, Dudziński was invited to the International Conference of Graphic Designers in Aspen, Colorado. After arriving in the United States, he decided to settle in New York. He collaborated with leading American magazines such as "The Atlantic Monthly," "The Boston Globe," "Newsweek," "The New York Times," "Playboy," "Rolling Stone," "Vanity Fair," "The Washington Post," and "Time." He also collaborated with numerous European magazines, including AT&T, Conde Nast, IBM, Deutsche Telekom, and Royal Bank of Scotland.
From 1982 to 1990, Dudziński taught at Parsons School of Design in New York.
In 2001, Sopot awarded Andrzej Dudziński the title of Honorary Citizen.
